I would say it depends on how you define success. If you mean success for the manufacturer in terms of sales, then I would say it is even more important than the quality of the DAW itself. The ecosystem is practically part of the marketing. In the end, the DAW also has to be functional. Ultimately everything works together.
The best DAW in the world is of no use if no one knows about it and uses it. And a DAW that everyone knows but doesn't work is just as worthless

I think the target group is part of the question. If someone is doing this as a hobby, then the community might be more important. However, if someone has to record the Vienna Philharmonic and you only have 1 chance, then stability might be the most important thing.
For me, as a hobbyist, the mix has to be right. Then the DAW is successful for me personally.
