Hi,
Not sure exactly what you are talking about because there aren't separate mixes per se that can be A/B compared within the same project. Meaning, for example you can't necessarily have the bass track in a mix at -3dB and then compare it to a mix with a Bass at -6dB without adjusting the fader on that track.
However, with a little creativity between a Submix track, Send Tracks and an OutputBus track you could sort of create separate mixes.
If you use send tracks for all of your effects, you could effectively turn them on or off all at once. If effects are on individual track fx chains as opposed to a Send track, you'll have more difficulty doing complete A/B mix comparisons as you would have to handle changes on a track by track basis.
A Submix track groups other tracks together. Once could group instruments and/or vocals under a submix track. You can group within groups. So you could have instruments as one group, maybe vocals as a nother, maybe bass and drums as another. Each of the individual Submixes can be under one major Submix. There fore you could control groups against other groups or the overall at once.
Output bus tracks allow you to route the audio separately from the Master.
With all this in mind, you could for example create two output bus tracks. One for effects and the other for the Main Submix. Create your send tracks that have the various effects on them and route their audio to the one of the Output busses. You can add the effects on individual tracks or on the various submixes. This way, you use the fader on the Effects Output Bus to "turn off and on" all of the effects in your mix at once.
Your main submix can be controlled in a similar way with the other output bus so you don't affect the individual instrument mix. You could in effect just have the wet of all of the effects sounding with the dry off for the entire mix.
There are many creative ways you could do this kind of thing by mixing and matching the various track types - but there is no real A/B mix comparison functionality where you can adjust individual instrument tracks.
