Mixcraft • Tempo from audio track.

One of my biggest uses of a Daw is to make Backing Tracks for my live performance. I got the GM midi thing sorted out thanks to the users here I'm stoked about that. . On to the next workflow.
Stem separation is a cool way to build a new Midi backing track. I take the stems and re build the song by playing along with the original. Being able to solo the parts makes this easier.

Not many Daw's can do this. With Cakewalk I had to use Cakewalk Next to do the Stem extraction and then move to Sonar to extract the tempo map as well as convert the Bass track into midi. All these tools are now available in just one Daw. Mixcraft. Cool!
Tempo extraction- In Cakewalk/Sonar you just drag and drop the Drum track to the timeline and cross your fingers. Melodyne and ARA do the work. It works about 60% of the time. It didn't work with this song I'm working on. It's gave me 50 BPM when the song is actually 85.

So I loaded the stems into Mixcraft ( Ya I could have made them directly but more on that in another thread someday)
I couldn't figure that Mixcraft does the Melodyne tempo drag and drop thing so I used plan B. Manually edit the tempo map.
I figured out how to do this pretty quickly by adding markers and entering new tempos until the measure s were lining up perfectly with the drum track transients. I figured this out real fast and was impressed by the way this is set up. Using the Marker list is simply brilliant!

I'm OK for now but if Melodyne and ARA can do tempo maps in Mixcraft point me to the button I push!

Note: I first attempted this in Ardour. Holy cow is that a unnecessarily complicated daw. You not only need a magnifying glass to work it takes 6 moves to do what Mixcraft does in one or two. I gave up.
