I'm looking for a "drum sample player", similar to the old Steinberg LM-4 MkII.
I don't need any more drum samples, I don't need it to look like a 'real' drum kit, and I don't need a 'groove library', I just want to be able to load my existing samples into a pad-based GUI.
I still have an LM-4 MkII but it's getting long in the tooth and there must be something newer and better...?
I could use Omni Sampler 8 out, but the problem with Omni is that you can't (I don't think) change the MIDI instrument numbers for the pads - so if I import a GM drum track the samples are dotted all over the place in the grid according to their MIDI numbers. I want to be able to group the pads in an intuitive order - e.g. kik - snare - hats - toms - rides - crashes; etc.
Does that make sense? Can anyone suggest a VSTi that might do what I'm looking for? I don't mind paying, it doesn't have to be free.
