In case anyone has this problem now (2025) and later...
I'm late to the game, but I had the exact same issue in Mixcraft 9. My downmix sounded horrible.
I Looked all over the internet for the solution. The response from Acoustica Greg led me in the right direction.
After following his instructions and finding the downmix sounded great in Mixcraft, I knew then it had to be my PC or the player. I was using KMPlayer and found two settings that stuck out under Internal Filters/Audio Transform. Now that I've made the changes and saved, I couldn't tell you for sure which two were marked (pretty safe bate "Enable built-in audio Transform filter" was one). The other most likely was "Enable built-in Audio Render". I made no other changes, just unchecked them. For reference, nothing is checked now, so that says alot.
After the change then restarting KMPlayer, the downmix sounded great.
