a simple solution for future proofing your projects is to open all the effects GUI and take a screenshot. I keep the screenshots in the project folder in their own folder.
Because Cakewalk is looking like it has no future I backed up all my projects so I could open them in Mixcraft or any Daw.
1- Save as a Midi file. This gives you the tempo map and what for me is the majority of my work.
2- Export all audio tracks as 48/32 stems wet- that included all effects including the sub bus and master. And automation.
3- Export all audio as 48/32 stems dry . No Automation.
4. Take screenshots of all VST instruments and effects.
5. Try and save pre sets and name them in a logical way.
I can now open the Midi file in Mixcraft and then drag in either the wet or dry audio stems. Some of my VST the pre sets worked some don’t. So I open the screenshots.
In no time at all my projects are sounding great in Mixcraft.
