Hello All,
Great reading and info, but still confused.
Trying to figure out how loud and dynamic my mix really is. So I opened a new project just to calibrate all these stinkin meters. I have Voxengo Span, TB Pro Audio mvMeter2nogpu and TR5 Metering all on the Master track. All faders (track and Master) are set to unity. There is no processing on anything at all. The VU and TR5 meters are referenced at -18db, The Span is at it's default which I believe is DBFS. I've searched for instruments to play just a single note with ( Rock organ, VB3 organ and several Midi guitar sustained notes). They all basically produce the same readings on the meters. The meters on the faders (track and master) both read -17db. The VU meter reads -12db and the Span reads -27db with transients up to about -21db. This is really confusing! I'm only concerned with all the tracks in my songs living in their sweet spot and sounding, or contributing the best they can (even while sounding good to my ears). Maybe I should just pay attention to the fader meters and Master fader meter to make sure things stay below -6db. Just not sure. I know there are so many questions, answers and opinions to all this "MUSIC MAKING STUFF" but I love it all and truly appreciate any feedback from this awesome forum.
Thanks A Billion
